Orville N. Mueth, of Caseyville, IL, born March 25,
1926, in East St. Louis, IL, entered into rest on
Monday, Jan. 11, 2010.
Orville was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob
and Adele Mueth; sister, Virginia Hohe; brother,
Edward Mueth; sister, Eleanor Kokotovich; and
daughter-in-law, Kim E., nee Buechler, Mueth.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Sylvia, nee Boyer,
Mueth; son, Terry (Mary) Mueth of Belleville, IL;
daughters, Carol Ricketts of Alhambra, IL; daughter,
Linda (Gary) Mueth-Poettker of Alhambra, IL; son,
David (Valarie) Mueth of Maryville, IL; six
grandchildren, Anna (Paul) Caminiti of Collinsville, IL,
Melissa Mueth of Collinsville, IL, Terry (Jessica) Mueth
of Jacksonville, Ark., Sarah (Chris) Samples of
Belleville, IL, John (Christin) Mueth of Fairview
Heights, IL, and Laura (Robbie) Lane of Urbana, IL;
three step grandchildren, Ashley Poettker of Tampa,
Fla., Matthew Paule of Caseyville, IL, and Scott Paule
of Belleville, IL. He is also survived by seven
great-grandchildren; one step great-grandchild; five
grand puppies and five great-grand puppies, and
several other extended family members and many
dear friends.
Orville was very active at Caseyville United Methodist
Church, serving in numerous positions. The church
chapter of the United Methodist Men was renamed the
"Orville N. Mueth" Chapter, in his honor. He also
belonged to and served in the Mississippi River
District of the United Methodist Men. He was Heifer
International "Man of the Year" for his dedicated
efforts in helping people around the world. Friends
and family recently donated an Ark of animals in his
honor. He also volunteered for Collinsville Faith in
Action and built many handicap ramps and drove
thousands of miles helping others. He touched many
lives while leading Junior Church for 30 years; serving
as a camp counselor at the Methodist Camp at Little
Grassy in Makanda, IL, and he and Sylvia taught
hundreds of other Christians by leading Lay Speaker
classes throughout Southern Illinois.
Orville retired from Monsanto where he served as an
electrician for 30 years and also served as treasurer
of Local 12. After moving to head offices in St. Louis,
he served as a Hazardous Material Handler. He
graduated from SIU Edwardsville in 1972 with a
Bachelor of Science Degree in Business. He owned
his own Handyman Service for 25 years. He was a
decorated World War II Army veteran, having received
a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star, a Sharpshooters Medal
and Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the
Caseyville VFW. He was an avid bowler at the former
Midway Bowl and St. Clair Bowl.

Southern Illinois or Heifer International.
